Biography
Captain (CPT) Maximilian J. Teufel is a native of Oakland, California. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019; while simultaneously serving three years as an Infantryman and Cadet in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He earned a commission in May 2019 as a Field Artillery (FA) Officer.
After briefly serving as an Advanced Camp Observer Coach/Trainer at Fort Knox , KY; CPT Teufel attended FA Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC) at Fort Sill, OK where he graduated Commandant’s list in January 2020. His follow-on assignment was to the First Infantry Division at Fort Riley, KS. There he served as a Fire Support Officer, Platoon Leader, and Battery Executive Officer in 1-5 FA “Hamilton’s Own” Battalion from January 2020 – April 2022; including an operational deployment that included service in Poland, Germany, and Lithuania.
Upon completion of the rotation, he was reassigned to Appleton, WI and served as a Recruiting Company Executive Officer in the Appleton Recruiting Company from May 2022 – August 2023. He subsequently attended Field Artillery Captains Career Course (CCC) at Fort Sill, OK and graduated Commandant’s List in March 2024.
He was then assigned to the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, HI where he served as an Assistant Operations Officer and 2-27 IN “No Fear” Fire Support Officer in 3-7 FA “Never Broken” Battalion from April 2024- November 2025. His most recent assignment was Company Commander of Headquarters and Support Company, HHBn, 25ID which included a Pacific Pathways Mission in the country of Luzon, Philippines. In fall 2026, CPT Teufel returned to the to the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an Assistant Professor of Military Science.
CPT Teufel’s awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Achievement Medal (4), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon (2). Additionally, he has been awarded the Air Assault Badge, Jungle Operations Training Course Tab, Basic U.S. Army Recruiting Badge, and he has been inducted into the honorable order of Saint Barbara. His Foreign decorations include: the Norwegian Foot March Badge (5) and German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.
He is married to his wife Elle (UW-Madison, BA ‘20) and they have one daughter, Maria.
