LTC Scott B. Cheney graduated from Norwich University in 1999, as a Distinguished Military Graduate and received his commission as an Infantry Officer. LTC Cheney’s first assignment was to 1st Battalion, 508th Airborne Battalion Combat Team, 173d Airborne Brigade, Vicenza, Italy where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Anti-Armor Platoon Leader from 2000-2001. LTC Cheney then served as a Rifle Platoon Leader in 2d Ranger Battalion, Fort Lewis, WA from 2001-2003. While assigned to 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom I and Operation Iraqi Freedom I.
After completing the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, LTC Cheney was assigned to 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry (SBCT), Fort Lewis, WA from 2004-2006. While assigned to 1-25 IN (SBCT) LTC Cheney served as a Brigade Assistant S-3 until he assumed command of a Stryker Rifle Company in 1-24 IN (SBCT) while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. LTC Cheney returned to 2d Ranger Battalion from 2006-2009 where he served as the Battalion S3 Air, Assistant S-3 and Rifle Company Commander deploying multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Upon graduation from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2011, LTC Cheney was assigned to 3rd Ranger Battalion, Fort Benning, GA where he served as the Battalion LNO, Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer from 2011-2014. Following his assignment to 3rd Ranger Battalion, LTC Cheney then served as the Executive Officer for the 75th Ranger Regiment prior to assuming command of 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.
While in command 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, LTC Cheney deployed to Poland in support of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) mission. While deployed LTC Cheney served as the Battle Group-Poland Commander in command of 1250 soldiers from the United States, United Kingdom, Croatia, and Romania from October 2017 to April 2018.
Most recently, LTC Cheney assumed duties as the Professor of Military Science for the University of Wisconsin Badger Battalion. In this capacity LTC Cheney oversees the development of cadets at UW-Madison, Edgewood College; UW-Whitewater, and Maranatha Baptist University.
LTC Cheney awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (w/4 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (w/4 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (w/2 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (w/2 Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (w/4 Stars), GWOT Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, and the NATO Medal. In addition, he has been awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and multiple foreign Parachutist Badges.
LTC Cheney holds a BA in History from Norwich University and a MS in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. LTC Cheney is married to the former Dawn Lynnette Boudreau of Milwaukee, WI. They have two sons and a daughter: Collin (14); Liam (12); and Anika (10).
