CPT James D. Morsch graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2016 and received his commission as an Engineer Officer. CPT Morsch was assigned to the 307TH Airborne Engineer Battalion (AEB), 3RD Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 82ND Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina following Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

CPT Morsch served as a Sapper Platoon Leader in Alpha Company, 307TH AEB and Task Force Engineer to 2-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3RD BCT from 2017-2018. Following his Sapper Platoon Leader time, CPT Morsch served as the Executive Officer in Alpha Company, 307TH AEB from 2018-2019 and the 307TH AEB Air Operations Officer in 2019.
CPT Morsch deployed to Afghanistan with 3RD BCT in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel from 2019-2020. While deployed, CPT Morsch served as the Base Defense Operations Center Chief of Operations at Bagram Airfield and the 3RD BCT Shadow UAS Platoon Leader at Kandahar Airfield.

Following deployment, CPT Morsch attended Engineer Captain’s Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was subsequently assigned as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

CPT Morsch’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (w/ 2x Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (w/ 1x Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (w/ 1x Bronze Service Star), Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal. Additionally, he has been awarded the Ranger Tab and Parachutist Badge.

CPT Morsch holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has graduated from Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course (2016), Engineer Captain’s Career Course (2020), United States Army Airborne School (2013), Ranger School (2017), and United States Army Advanced Airborne School – Jumpmaster Course (2018).
