Current Position:
LTC Katie Blue is the Professor of Military Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is responsible for the program’s mission of recruiting, developing and commissioning the future officers and leaders of the United States Army.

Military Background:
Lieutenant Colonel Katie J. Blue is a native of Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and was commissioned in 1998 as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Signal Corps through the ROTC program at St. Cloud State University, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

LTC Blue spent three months as a Gold Bar Recruiter before attending the Signal Officer’s Basic Course at Fort Gordon, GA where she graduated with honors. Her first assignment was in the Republic of Korea where she served in the Division G6 as the Assistant Division Automation Management Officer assigned to HHC, 122d Signal Battalion, 2d Infantry Division.

In 2000, she was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She served in the 51st Signal Battalion (Airborne) and 35th Signal Brigade (Airborne) where she held various positions including: Assistant Battalion S3, Platoon Leader, Brigade S3 Operations/Air Officer, and Brigade Network Engineer. In the summer of 2002, she spent time at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida serving as a liaison between the CENTCOM J6 and the CJTF-180 CJ6 deployed to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in support of OEF. In 2003, LTC Blue deployed to Camp Doha, Kuwait, where she assigned to the CFLCC C6 and served as a Battle Captain.

In 2004, LTC Blue returned to Fort Gordon to attend the Signal Captain’s Career Course. Upon graduating, she returned to Fort Bragg to serve as the Battalion Maintenance Officer for the 327th Signal Battalion (Airborne). She transferred to the 82d Signal Battalion (Airborne) serving as the Assistant Battalion S3 and Commander for the Headquarters and Headquarters Company for 82d Signal Battalion and later the Division Special Troops Battalion.

In 2006, she attended Graduate School at the University of South Florida, Tampa, earning a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science. In 2008, she became an instructor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

LTC Blue was most recently assigned to Fort Hood, TX, where she served as the S6 for the 3d Cavalry Regiment during the Regiment’s Conversion from an Armored Cavalry Regiment to a Stryker Regiment. She deployed in support of OEF IVX while serving as the S3 for the 57th Expeditionary Signal Battalion and transitioned to the S3 for Task Force Signal at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. Most recently, she served as the S3 for the 11th Signal Brigade.

LTC Blue holds the Space Operations Additional Skill Identifier. Her major awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (1 OLC), Army Superior Unit Award, and the Senior Parachutist badge.
